Back to School- School Supply List

Little Guy and I went to Target yesterday and purchased all of the school supplies on the list provided by his new teacher.  They were kind enough and organized enough to have the list in his backpack along with his First grade report card.

It seems the most popular items these days are those nifty Twistable Crayons and colored pencils.

Oddly enough hand sanitizer and facial tissues were not on the list.  I suspect there will be a teacher wish list when we finally start school in at the end of this month.

Instead of tossing the list, I folded it up and stuck it in my handbag.  Why?

Crayon’s break, scissors are misplaced, pencil erasers wear down rapidly and paper runs out.  And when you little one is on the young side it is really difficult for them to remember to tell you what they are missing in their desk at school.

So here is what I am going to do with our School Supply List.

  1. I am storing the list in a folder in my filing cabinet for reference.
  2. I am adding a copy of the list to my planner.
  3. At the beginning of each month I will ask Little Guy if he needs anything off the list.  To clarify it enough for him to understand we will read the list together.  Hopefully this will trigger a memory of something like; Oh yeah, momma, I have been coloring all of my trees blue because I lost my green crayon and Katie is letting me use her scissors when she is finished.
  4. I purchase 3 of everything on the school supply list.  One for school, one for home use and one for back-ups when they run out.  At this time of year the sales are really good and twistable Crayons are not cheap.

Simple Daily Challenge: Make a copy of your school supply list and store it some place handy.  Do you have a planner?  Then write down the list in a section of your planner.  I have a section dedicated to lists.  It is handy dandy and a big time saver.

  1. Teddy’s starting kindergarten this year and we got our supply list from the school’s website. I’m not quite sure why they didn’t send it in with the school letter, but in some ways, it’s a bit better. We don’t have to worry about misplacing it. I suspect he’s going to have another list from his teacher once he starts school next week, but for now, we’ve got a start.

I wanted to buy three of everything, but my husband talked me out of it. Partly money reasons, partly because he didn’t want them wasted. And most of what he needs shouldn’t be too expensive.

But I like your idea of having the list in the planner. I may adopt that one so if I’m at the store, I’ll have the list to know what I need to pick up if I can.

  2. Kindergarten, that is the best. I wish Teddy a great school year.
I love my planner. It keeps me sane.
