Momma’s Christmas Survival Guide: 12 Essential Tips for a Stress-Free Holiday

Keeping a routine during the busiest season of the year is a great way to keep you focussed. If you make it a practice to repeat the same routine daily, your house will be tidier, you will feel more in control, and you will be more capable of handling the Christmas (Holiday) Rush.

I am sharing my daily routine, minus work obligations and volunteer obligations, because some folks work out of the home, some folks work as stay at home moms, and some folks work in the home and try to juggle everything.

Embracing the Festive Frenzy: A Mom’s Guide to a Serene Christmas

The holiday season, with its cheerful chaos, can be overwhelming for moms juggling Christmas planning and family management. In this festive whirlwind, maintaining a routine is not just comforting, but essential for sanity. Here, I share my ‘Momma’s Dirty Dozen’ – a daily checklist that keeps me anchored amidst the Yuletide rush.

  1. Morning Kick-Start: Begin your day in a set sequence: savor a coffee, skim through emails, make the bed, and get dressed. This ritual sets a productive tone for your day.
  2.  Quick Power Walk: A brief, energizing 5-minute walk can refresh your mind and boost your energy levels.
  3. Swift Clean-Up: Dedicate 5 minutes to tidying up. This small effort can significantly reduce clutter and stress.
  4. Nutritious Breakfast & Lunch Prep: As a morning person, I find joy in preparing healthy breakfasts and lunches, fueling my family for the day ahead.
  5. Laundry Time: Weekends are for laundry, but for urgent needs like school uniforms or workout gear, a quick wash post-breakfast does the trick.
  6. Movement Matters: Incorporate 30 minutes of physical activity into your day, even if it means splitting it into shorter segments.
  7.  Streamlined Homework Sessions: Organize homework time to be efficient and less daunting. Allow your child to lead with their preferred subject, ending with a relaxing reading session.
  8. Home-Cooked Dinners: Planning dinners, whether daily or weekly, ensures family time and helps with budgeting. Plus, it’s a healthier option than dining out. (Consider bulk cooking a protein once or twice a week to save time!)
  9. Teamwork in the Kitchen: While my husband handles the dishwasher, I take care of the pots and pans. This small act of teamwork keeps our evenings smooth.
  10. Calendars and Lists: A nightly review of the calendar and to-do lists ensures that everything, from school plays to choir practice, is on track.
  11. Evening Wind-Down: Stick to a calming nighttime routine – pajamas, skincare, dental care, and so on.
  12. Relax and Recharge: End your day with some light reading or a favorite TV show, a perfect way to unwind with your partner.
