31 Days Clutter Crusade – Day 21 – First Aid Kits

declutter and restock your first aid kit

31 Days Clutter Crusade – Day 21 – First Aid Kits

Today we are decluttering and make a restock shopping list for our first aid kits.

One of the many things in life that come in handy as a busy parent is a really good First Aid Kit. The American Red Cross recommends having one in each car and one in our home and to know where the kit is at your place of work.  I also encourage having a kit on each floor of your house, especially in the kitchen area.

I have the one pictured below in my kitchen and it really came in handy one day when I sliced my finger up pretty good on a mandolin. It was ready in a drawer near the sink and had all the items I need to keep it clean until I made it to the emergency room.

Emergency Kits for Kids- Bandages in Fun Shapes and embellished with Fun Pictures

Having one upstairs near the boy’s bedrooms has come in handy for all kind of scrapes and bumps. But now that they are older, (one is in grade school and one is engaged) they can usually tend to minor scrapes on their own. My youngest loves to put a bandage on even the tiniest of booboos and I always keep a fun set for him to use. Check out the awesome Abe Lincoln bandages below, perfect for your budding historian.

Let’s get started with today Clutter Crusade Challenge

Declutter Your First Aid Kit:

Toss the empy boxes and stray wrappers.
Discard any old medications.
Look for any tears in topical ointment and antiseptic tubes or packets and discard if damaged.
Now make a list of items you need using the First Aid Kit list below as a guide.

First Aid Kit List

  • 1 or 2 working flashlights with spare batteries. I like to have at least one be able to stand up on its own. I am putting this on the top of the list because if there is no power and you have an injured person you will need the light to do first aid.
  • 2 absorbent compress dressings (5 x 9 inches)
  • 25 adhesive bandages (assorted sizes)
  • 1 pack adhesive cloth tape
  • 10 antibiotic ointment packets or one small tube
  • 10 antiseptic wipe packets
  • 2 packets of aspirin (81 mg each)
  • 1 compact blanket
  • 1 breathing barrier (with one-way valve)
  • 1 instant cold compress
  • 2 pair of nonlatex gloves (size: large)
  • 2 hydrocortisone ointment packets
  • Scissors
  • 1 roller bandage (3 inches wide)
  • 1 roller bandage (4 inches wide)
  • 10 sterile gauze pads (3 x 3 inches)
  • 10 sterile gauze pads (4 x 4 inches)
  • Oral thermometer (non-mercury/nonglass) and baby type thermometer if needed.
  • 3 triangular bandages
  • Tweezers
  • 2 gallon size and 3 quart size Ziploc bags or similar sealing bags for ice packs and for disposing of contaminated bandages and gauze.
  • First aid instruction booklet

Note- Make sure your and all family member prescription drugs are readily available for travel in emergencies as well as a copy of the prescription in your First Aid Kit and your Emergeny Go Bag.   If you or any family member has severe food allergies or other health issues add a detailed note in each pack and keep a set in the car. ( I know this is a tad off topic, but I just wanted to throw it in there)

Whew, that is it! You are rocking these challenges!
