Fun Ways To Get The Kids To Help You Tidy Up

Double Dog Dare - Home Manegement, Saturday Clean-up Challenge

When Saturday raises its mysterious head and we are bound by the busy elves in the forest to drive our kids to ball games, take them to buy the next shoe-size up, grocery shop, tidy the house, wash clothes and dig through several backpacks to see what papers we forgot to sign last week it can be really quite exhausting. An  exhausted mom is a cranky mom.

So to keep cranky mom in the closet and allow super joyful, silly mom to walk around the house in her lime-green tutu and fairy wings we are having a little game of Double Dog Dare today.

I am handing out 3 Double Dog Dare challenges that are very simple and quick to finish so that your day can have a little bit of fun despite the overwhelming task of being a mom.

Straighten the Book Shelves Fun Mom Style

  • Ask one or all of your children to gather up all of the books that have been scattered about the house.
While they are doing their part, pick out and oldie but goodie to read-aloud for 3 or 4 minutes, make sure it is a FUN book and not some kind of dry Latin book from your grandfather’s college days.
  • With the children books nearby have every one pitch on while you monitor the book tidying.
  • When they are finished, spend a few minutes reading with the children in your best lime-green tutu fairy wearing joyful momma way the silly book you chose to share.

Clothing Round-Up – With Cowboy Jane

In your best western accent round-up your young cowboys and cowgirls for a fun family game of dirty clothes in the hampers jackets hung up and shoes put away on the old Cheyenne Trail. If you know any good cowboy songs sing along during this challenge.

First have everyone gather up all their clothes  to put in the hampers and ask them to do so while riding a pretend western stallion or beautiful white princes horse.

When they are finished rounding up the clothes, move on to the jackets and shoes.

(You could down load the theme from Bonanza for this game)

The Island Of Lost Toys

Become a vivid story-teller and explain that all the toys in the house have now become Lost Toys and need to find their way to the Island of the Lost toys.

Ask the children to bring each toy to a special Beach Blanket Island on the floor in the area near the toys storage.

Once all the toys are on their Lost Island, ask your children to help them find their way home.
