Keep Penelope Perfect Out Of Your Pantry

Busiest Moms in the World Spring Clean Challenge Day 11 We are working in the kitchen today!

The Pantry is a big deal in the kitchen.  It can either be a safe haven of simple meals or a disaster zone filled with random cans of random stuff that are housed in the pantry eternally until someone finally decides we are never going to eat that canned German Potato Salad or Cream of Artichoke soup.

Today we are decluttering the pantry and giving it a little bit of momma sunshine.

Our pantry needs to be functional and organized enough so that we can find what we are looking for without to much of a fuss. At least that is what I keep reading in all those fancy, glossy magazines.

The glossy magazines also are what Penelope Perfect loves to get her perky perfect ideas.  You know the matching baskets, containers and mason jars to make you pantry to Penelope Perfect with a dash of Martha and all that is wonderful if you have the money to spend and time shop for them.  Let’s just ask Penelope Perfect to hang out in the backyard for a while.  We are busy budgeting moms and we simply do not need all that stuff buzzing around in our heads.  For today, let just try to use what we have.

Whew, now I feel better.

Let’s Get Started:

  1. Clear out the entire pantry.
  2. Wipe down shelving with an all-purpose cleaner.
  3. Group all like items together and replace back in the pantry. (pastas. soups, spices, etc)

Please do not over think the pantry. My only tip is keep the healthier stuff easy to reach and either ditch the unhealthy stuff or put it up high enough that the family will not go on a junk food binge.

If you have a surplus of a certain canned item consider creating a meal or two around those items in the next couple of days or donate a few to the local food pantry.

I will post my before and after pictures tomorrow, but I warn you, when I send Penelope Perfect to the backyard that means I am using what I have and not spending money trying to make my home look like a fancy, glossy magazine.  I do already have a few items that I bought many moons ago in there, but you really can’ t see them for the clutter.

I would love to see your before and after pics through this Spring Cleaning Challenge, please send them to me via email (momma@mommacan.com), post on Facebook or add a link to the comment section!

Happy Pantry Purging!
