Sweeping Memories in my Kitchen

My idea of superwoman is someone who scrubs her own floors.
Better Midler

Many moons ago, I worked a t Chicago style pizza joint to learn the art of a darn good pizza.  After a long day of dough making and sauce stirring my favorite thing to do was sweep the corn meal off the floor. We used cornmeal to keep the pizzas from sticking in the pizza oven.

Every day the floor was heavily dusted with the meal and every day I had the satisfaction of sweeping it clean.  There was just something so soothing about that cornmeal on the floor.  It was a representation of all that hard work feeding hungry folk and getting ready for a new day.

Today, every time I sweep the kitchen floor it takes me back to that time in my life of cornmeal, pizzas and a carefree existence.  But there were no silly giggles to distract me in the background or random cheerios stuck to the floor for me to chisel away. My current sweeping days are truly the happiest days of my life.

Simple Daily Challenge: Vacuum and mop the kitchen floor. Don’t forget to check under the table for random stuck Cheerios!

  1. I like sweeping, and cleaning in general. I wouldn’t want a maid, I’d prefer to do it myself. It gives me a feeling of satisfaction that I’m keeping our family’s home clean!

    1. Yes, and for me the before and after are just the best feeling. I just wish I could figure out how to make my home smell like the Pottery Barn.
