Take Five To Organize- Versatile Bags for Shopping and Toting

Take Five to Organize

Several cities in our area now charge for disposable bags when shopping for groceries and non-food items. The only way to avoid the 10 cent per bag charge is to bring your own while shopping. You can read about  San Francisco’s guidelines here. Check-out Bag Ordinance

Save time and money today by placing a set of canvas bags in each car and add one inside your computer bag, purse or diaper bag so that you will always have one handy.

I use the Chico Bag as it seems to be the easiest one to stuff back into the little sack after use.  Along with keeping one in each bag I have one hanging on the family message center on a hook near the spot we keep backpacks and keys.

For weekly or bi-weekly grocery shopping  I use larger bags with sturdy bottom. These handy bags keep items from spilling over in the car and are large enough for two gallons of milk and larger fruits like watermelons, melons and pineapple. I just love them.

Many local community events will offer shopping bags for very little money and a small collection of those will work nicely as you can fold them and store several inside one bag and keep them in the trunk of your car.  Either way, it is a good habit to get into and will save on plastic waster for your community which is really a wonderful and easy way to contribute and be a GREENER MOMMA.

Question : Do you use totes and bags for shopping?  If so, what are your favorite brands, would love to know.

  1. No, I never use the bags and never really thought about it. It sounds like a great idea for putting them in the car if they don’t tip over of prevent groceries from going all over. They seem to be too big for me to carry around.I do reuse the plastic bags though.and always ask not to put the milk in a bag. It’s a stupid idea IMHO, just another plastic bag and they tear. Great post!
