The Sound Of Music

There is not one thing in the world that can kick of fthe holidays like the sweet melodies from the Sound of Music.

And hearing the wonders of that music with modern talented singers is a real treat!

THE SOUND OF MUSIC

THE SOUND OF MUSIC, one of America’s most beloved musicals, will air live at 8 p.m. ET Thursday, Dec. 5 on NBC. The show features an all-star cast that features country music star Carrie Underwood, Stephen Moyer (“True Blood”) and Christian Borle (“Smash”), among others.

Underwood and Moyer star as Maria and Captain von Trapp, respectively, in this beloved story of the young novice who falls in love with Captain von Trapp and his seven children, set against the backdrop of Nazi-occupied Austria. The jewel in the Rodgers and Hammerstein crown,  THE SOUND OF MUSIC contains some of the most famous songs ever written for the stage, including “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” “Climb Every Mountain” and “Edelweiss.”

FAVORITE THINGS

My mega-rocking-favorite is ” My Favorite Things” and back in the day when I was training to be a cantor ( a leader of song) I studied with a nun who was friends with the real Maria. This was many moons back and Sister Evelyn was a true and good mentor.  She organized the production of Sound of Music at our church and Maria came to see it!  I was too young to realize the significance of having her as a guest, but I do now as an adult.

Tune in tonight and enjoy the music of our youth and share it with your children. Then maybe later this month watch the original Motion Picture and let them enjoy the wonders and magic of the Von Trapps with the original cast.

I can’t wait for tonight! I have hot apple cider in the slow cooker and fresh baked snickerdoodles waiting to be munched on… gluten free of course!
