Please Join in Singing Our National Anthem – The Star Spangled Banner

It’s pretty simple, The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key is the United States National Anthem and if you are of the USA then you absolutely need to sing it and sing it proud.

The Fourth of July is just around the corner and you may get your chance to lift up your voice with all the other folks in the good old’ USA.
Some folks believe this tune is difficult to sing. I say nonsense. There is one little word (free) that is a bit high on the old musical scale. It’s just one and if you were recording it in a studio they could fix it right up with all kinds of knobs and doodads that give so many recording artists these days perfect pitch.

I say go for it. And it is not because I am a singer. It is simply because the song belongs to you, The American, the brave, the free and most of all the proud.

It really hurts me when I go to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and the orchestra plays the National Anthem and all of about twenty people are singing. (Okay, maybe a few more than that, but you can’t hear them) Hello, its Hollywood, home of everyone is an actor or a performer, “can I take your order please?”.

This year in honor of our hard-earned independence, I double dog dare you to own this song. It’s a minute of your life and by golly that one little high note is totally obtainable in the shower so why not try it out at the ballpark or right before the community 4th of July celebrations.

You have officially been double dog dared.
Here are the words, now go practice.

The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Francis Scott Key

*note there are more verses, but this is normally the verse you sing at the ballpark or other games and celebrations.

  1. Thanks for joining our hop and following, I have returned the luv.

This is a very important post/point that is severely overlooked. People tend to take things for granted for sure!

Here’s the cool part….Francis S. Key is one of my husband ancestors on his mother’s side. His great-grandmother was Frances S. Key. My 7 & 9 yr olds get a big kick out of that and know Francis’ entire history.

    Have a great week!
