The Great Outdoors Day Three – What Color is your Thumb?

It is Day Three of the Great Outdoors

Get out your gardening gloves because we are going to hang out with the green stuff today.

I really feel with the way the food industry is almost completely industrialized it is important for everyone to learn a little bit about growing things.
If you have a working and well-practiced green thumb and are growing you own food and flowers I would love to link up a post with your garden and read about your successes.

If you have a gray thumb that frightens easily when it sees a bag of dirt and blisters at the mere thought of a shovel then you are like most of us,
you may have a plant in the kitchen window, but your house is full of the silk or plastic variety. Outside you may have colorful annuals and grass that gets mowed  twice a month or more.

Both of these answers are just fine, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a little bit of both worlds?
Most importantly wouldn’t it be nice to not buy high prices for fresh lettuce and herbs if we could learn how to do so?

Today I am planting a few herbs, I have had very good success with mint and oregano growing in containers so I am sticking with what I know.  I am also taking my Little Guy outside to plan a large container pot with salad greens.

Here is an article on planting fall greens that I found helpful.

Now on to the challenge for the day:

Remove all dead annuals and trim back any perennials  Make a shopping list for the next time you are near your favorite nursery and choose a few with excellent color and low maintenance and tolerates your climate well.  If you remove annuals or other plants from pots make sure that you wash the pots well and let them dry in the sun a couple of days. You can either store these or add fall and winter annuals to the pots for more color.

Happy Gardening Day!
Remember just do what you can and if you find yourself overwhelmed then just add what you have not finished to Monday or another day and ask someone for some help, gardening is an excellent couple and family hobby.
