Halloween will soon be here! My little guy is so excited. He wants to decorate every flat and vertical space in the house. I love his enthusiasm and the fact that he can cut tombstones out of printer paper tirelessly.
Children tend to love everything about Halloween. Mine especially love visiting the local family farm to choose a pumpkin. Every year they seek the largest in the hay covered yard. And every year I tell them you can only have what you can carry out.
Now mind you, my oldest son is 24 years old and in pretty good shape. In other words, a 100 pound pumpkin is a real possibility.
But we have the best time. I really do enjoy the local family farm and the hunt for the greatest pumpkin in the field. I love the crisp autumn air and the smell of roasting corn that the family farm provides to all its hungry guests.
It just goes to show you that you never outgrow the fun of harvest events. Halloween is dandy, but so are hay rides, hot chocolate and hot apple cider. And oh my Lordy, homemade pumpkin pie is so divine.
I will always take a trip to the pumpkin patch, even when I am old and have great grandchildren. Fun is fun no matter your age.
I am triple dog daring all of you, single, married, divorced, confused, mommies, daddies, uncles, aunts, cousins….. take a visit to the pumpkin patch. Eat some kettle corn and have some hot chocolate.
This is my challenge…. enter a date on the calendar to visit the local pumpkin patch. You are so going to love this, even if it has been 20 years since your last great pumpkin hunt.
peace and popcorn,
