This is the simplest recipe in the world for Irish Soda break and a must to serve with a hearty bowl of potato soup!

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F  – Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan. ( I use a bit of butter)
  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Blend egg and buttermilk together in a medium-sized mixing bowl, add liquids excluding butter to the flour mixture. Mix just until moistened. Stir in butter. Pour into prepared pan.
  3. Bake for 65 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the bread comes out clean. Cool on in pans.  Remove bread and wrap in foil for several hours, or overnight, for best texture and flavor.  Or just eat a slice, as soon as it cools a bit,  with a generous slather of butter and enjoy the heck out of it!

Notes

I adore Irish Soda bread with orange marmalade. Truly any good jam, preserve, or jelly is fantastic on this delish treat!
