Prepping for the Holidays – Tips and a Challenge

Prepare for the HOlidays

Prepping for the holidays is about to get real folks!

We are just about to enjoy Halloween so all the big holidays are just around the corner. I have my been watching the Target sales, especially those neat one where you receive a 5 dollar gift card.  I am stocking up on items that get used frequently during the month but also even more frequently during the holiday season.

Prepping for the Holidays – Tips and a Challenge

I highly recommend stocking up on the following items, especially if you celebrate at your home or do a bunch of cooking.

  1. Basic Baking Supplies – non-food – Storage containers, plastic wrap, foil and more. If you shop early, you still have your wits about you and can look for good deals and perhaps clip a coupon or two.
  2. Fresh dried spices, example: I purchase a new jar of Pumpkin Pie spice every year from Penzey Spice because fresh is best and the gorgeous aroma when I open that new jar is amazing!
  3. Paper Towels, Garbage Bags and Toilet Paper. I don’t know why, but we go through these items so quickly during the months of November and December that it just makes sense to buy extra to save trips to the store.  I try not to use paper towels all the time, but they are more sanitary for food prep.
  4. Stocking Stuffers – If you stuff stocking, get the tiny gifts now, write each item down noting who it is for and lock the items away and hide your “top-secret” holiday notebook in a safe place.

Now for the challenge:

Your kitchen will be crazy-busy if you are a home cook during the holidays. And with the way food is prepared these days at a fast food and industrial food suppliers it is a superb idea to cook at home as often as you can.   This will go much more smoothly if your kitchen is organized and cleaned each night.

Challenge for today – Grab a trash bag and clear out all old food and food that will not be eaten and throw it away. Consider donating a few canned good to the food pantry to make room for your holiday baking supplies.

We start our Holiday Challenge for 2015 on Monday – Get ready folks and check back daily for you Kitchen Prep Challenge every day.

Happy Prepping For The Holidays!
