SHOE CLUTTER

“If you look at your entire house as one unit of junk,

you’ll never do anything because the job is too overwhelming.

Take it one drawer at a time.”

Today is day 11 of the 31 Day Clutter Crusade and we are working on our shoe collections.  I thought the quote above would be appropriate because many women really love shoes and if they have a young daughter at home this could mean that there are a lot of shoes.  And to make it even more interesting we add athletic shoes which can be a crazy amount if you have a couple of boys around.  We are talking shoes! Lots and lots of shoes!

Now what?  Do you feel that shoes are taking over the floors, closets, garage and any other available space?  Today is a great day to deal with shoe clutter!  Just 10 minutes folks.

How to Declutter Shoes

Let’s begin:

Pick the closet most overwhelmed with shoes and begin there, any other place throughout the house you will only find shoes that just need to be put away.

  • Keep it – If the shoe fits… and you or someone else wears it often keep it.
  • Toss It – If the shoes has nine hoes, no sole and is beyond repair than toss it.
  • Donate It- If the shoes are still wearable and are no longer needed by any soul in the house donate it.

*Do not donate any item that has emotional value to anyone in the house without first asking and please remember these are just prompts. You need to decide what to keep, donate or toss for your household. ( P.S. not your significant other, let them declutter their own shoes!)

QUESTION: How many pairs of shoes do you feel each child needs in their closet?  I would love to know, it is truly a mystery.

  1. Shoes are an issue for me! My hubby & two 20-something boys – and all their buddies who practically live here – just walk out of their shoes as they enter the door, leaving them all over the mat which is between the front door and the laundry. I can’t tell you how many times a day I trip over dang shoes! I have tried every shoe rack, moved furniture and nothing changes. I’m resorting to threatening to throw the shoes in the snowbank now!

    1. I have that problem with my youngest son, although his feet are quite grow-up. lol Where ever he sits he leaves a pair of shoes. Drives me bonkers!

  2. School shoes, tennis shoes, muck boots, cowboy boots, dress shoes, swim shoes, sandals,… It is maddening! That’s 49 pair of shoes just for my kids, no wonder they are everywhere but we can never find any that match!
