Red, White, And Blue Patriotic Tablescape

My favorite summer holiday is centered around my country, the USA. I start decorating mid-May for Memorial Day and keep the Red, white, and blue scheme all the way through the Independence Day, the Fourth of July!

My love for holiday decor can be quite the storage challenge. I am thankful that I now have a lovely blue and white china college which takes care of two colors and lots of neutrals to make a pretty table.

Red White and Blue Star Napkins

Stars and Stripes For Ever

I was lucky to find these festive napkins for my table at Homegoods. They add just enough whimsy to make the table less fussy and really and were so easy to tuck under the top plate.  Notice the reds do not match exactly, there really is no need to get obsessive about matching, variety is part of the fun!

Lemon Branches and White Rose 4th of July Center Piece

I am always looking for the perfect flowers at the local grocery.  Busy moms have to find what they need so often at the same old stores. It never really changes! Fresh flowers are often seasonal and the same. Does that make sense?

I bought some imitation rose stems and greenery stuck it in the jar and was just not happy. I wanted my table to have true green elements to balance all of the reds, blues, and whites.  We moved the faux flower vase into the living area for the coffee table.  I added a few flags and it looks really nice in this setting.

I ended up loving using the citrus branches. We have PLENTY all year so it is a nice to not spend bucks on greenery. I loved the contrast of the white roses against the citrus branches, it reminds me magnolia blossoms.

Red, White, And Blue Patriotic Tablescape  and the Milk Glass Hunt

Our Patriotic table decor was coming together for our family Memorial Day get together. I grabbed a few sets of clear glass to add the finishing touches and just did not love it. The clear glass was lost amidst all the glorious color! I knew what it needed, white glasses. But Lordy, have you ever shopped for white glasses?

I found a few silicone wine glass in white. You know the kind you can roll down a hill and they never break. Plastic-like white tumblers were plentiful but did not pair well with the tableware.

I remember seeing White Milk Glass on a cute table in a tearoom years ago. The adults were all drinking tea out of delicate cups and the waitress brought my son a big glass of lemonade in a white glass tumbler.

Google came to the rescue as I searched Milk Glass and found lots of neat ones on eBay. One problem, I needed it soon!

Lucky in Love, Lucky in Life

Enter, my milk glass knight in golf-shirt armor. My husband humored my milk glass obsession and let me go antiquing. We scored in the very first store we visited! I could hardly believe it. Way, in the very back at the corner behind the glass sliding doors of a cantankerous cabinet I found several tall white milk glasses with the grape and vine design.

Y’all, I was almost shocked! Yep, they were a bit pricey but once you add shipping it seemed to come pretty close to the deal I saw on eBay.

Picture middle-aged me doing a little bit of Michael Jackson’s moonwalk. My teenager was frozen in mortification, so I soothed him with a vintage Transformer character because collecting old stuff is clearly in our genetics.

Golly, the milk glasses are just perfect! They are an amazing contrast to the vintage style red picnic cloth and the blue and white pattern dishes.

Here is the “sit down for a spell” shot complete with cozy blue and white pillow to keep your back comfy. You can catch a glimpse of the living room in the back and if you are a “Where is Waldo” kind of gal see if you can find my two little Uncle Sam characters. ( Let me know in the comments!)

This image also shows off the tiny tassels on the picnic cloth. Are you as bummed as I am wondering why the tassels were not all the way around the tablecloth?  But I love, love the table cloth!  So, I got over the tassel thing pretty quick.

Overall, I am pleased as punch with our Red, White, And Blue Patriotic Tablescape. We enjoyed our Memorial Day dinner with the kids and my husband said the table was pretty as well as my family and that is really all that matters!

Keep It Simple

Creating a Patriotic table for special occasions should be simple. Yep, I got a little crazy over the milk glasses, but that is part of my silly momma charm! Everything you see on the table I have purchased to use over and over again around the house.

I have had the round placemats for ages, and you are looking at our everyday flatware. The white base plate ( Le Creuset)  I bought when we hosted our first Christmas brunch years and years ago! I started collecting blue and white ginger jars and china when I discovered my true decor style. SOUTHERN ECLECTIC!  If it speaks to your heart, then its a keeper! This goes with design and food!

I hope you have gained a little inspiration with our red, white and blue decor!

I have a little update.  My husband recently lost his Auntie.  I shared my photo on my personal facebook page and her son noticed how much I loved the milk glass. He is handling his mother’s things and had just dropped off the matching pitcher to the milk glasses! He mailed it right away.

I am going to be adding the beautiful milk glass pitcher to design soon. This table has been such a blessing!
