Poor Aunt Gertrude She Never Saw It Coming

Picture this, you Great-Aunt Gertrude opens the coat closet to hang her raspberry tinted rabbit coat and bam!  That sky-high balanced set of family board games you have been meaning to purge falls on her head.  Poor Aunt Gertrude she never saw it coming,
You quickly run to her rescue to make sure she is okay and of course she is fine. Because, it was just the Yahtzee game that nailed her and it was relatively small.  So you offer to hang her coat only to discover there is no room in the closet to hang anything.

Embarrassing!

Today we are going to make room and make sure that it is safe for company to hang their coats.

Now, some folks just lay them in a big pile in a bedroom, many folks have an

actual coat closet someplace in the entrance area. We do. But what I just described to you in the story above is basically my closet. There is also an accordion, about 50 random table cloths, several cleverly hidden Christmas gifts and my hanging bag of wrapping paper, which I forgot I had in the first place.

Tools:

  • Trash bag
  • Storage box
  • Donation Box
  • Gloves -if you happen to have a spider problem. It only takes one to scare me out of my wits.

Let’s Get Started: The Coat Closet

  • Purge, Purge, Purge- If you no longer use it then donate it.
  • Toss, Toss, Toss- if it is trash, put it in the trash bag
  • Store, Store, Store- If you can store it temporarily then place it in the Storage Box and put it someplace like the garage or up in you bedroom closet.

Look at the top of the closet. Does anything look as if it may fall over at any random moment? Fix this please, our friends, neighbors and relatives may often times get on our nerves but the last thing we want to do is send them to the ER during the holidays.

The Bedroom Pile Up

If you just pile your guest coats and hats in a bedroom then you need to make sure that it is tidy and uncluttered.

Put away all the stray items, dust the furniture, make sure the light bulbs work and vacuum or sweep the floors.  I like to add a little baking soda to the carpets before I vacuum. It takes away random odors, like new puppy, new baby, teenage son and stinky husband feet.

And that is it!  Hooray!

See you tomorrow or not.  Because I hope you take your momma break and do something fun!  We are having a Gingerbread House Party for a few of my son’s friends.  So I am going to sneak in my Mommy Maintenance today.

What are you doing to celebrate the Season?
