Back to School – Organize Your Child’s Closet

I am amazed at how fast my son has grown. We purchased brand new athletic shoes for him in Memphis this and when we took him to the shoe shopping last week he had grown a full size!  He bypassed my husband this time and wears a whopping size 12 in mens.  My baby boy is growing up, well at least his feet are growing up, oh and his legs.  All of his jeans have that look of just being long enough, which usually lasts about a week before he is sporting high waters.

So take a wild guess where I will be decluttering today!  And of course I am inviting you all to join me.  The Closet. Your children need to be prepared head to toe and ear to ear to be ready to rock this school year and this includes the bedroom closets.

Let’s Get Started

1. Take a before photo, totally optional, but can be fun to keep you motivated during the process.

2. Grab your donation bag, trash bag and clutter box.

3. Donate or hand down all clothing that no longer fits.

4. Trash anything that is not fit to donate or add it to the rag-bag and add items that do not belong in the closet into the clutter box.

5. Remove anything that will distract your child from a good night’s sleep during the school year.  This includes board games and mountains of stuff animals. This is not totally necessary but can be a big help to overly creative minds. Store these items for rainy day play  out of the bedroom.

6. Organize the remaining items while taking notes on what needs to be replaced.  I am pretty sure jeans are in my shopping future.

7. Put away your clutter box items.

8. Take your optional after photo and do the mommy happy dance!  You are totally finished.

Sound simple enough?  Well see you bright and early tomorrow!  Happy Closet Organizing!

Question: How many outfits do you keep in your child’s closet?  What do you feel is too much?
