Welcome to the 12 Days of Self-Care Challenge for busy moms to conquer holiday stress. Our first challenge was sleep and making a point to plan for enough sleep. Today we are focussing why busy moms need good nourishment during the holidays.
It is really simple, good nourishment gives good energy and heaven knows busy moms need energy during the stressful holiday season. Can you relate the dinner eating habits below? If so then this challenge is for you!
Moms and Dinner Eating Habits
Dinner time for busy moms can mean many things. Often times you hear mom dinner at night, is toddler leftovers and some kind of caffeine to get energized. Busy moms use caffeine instead to replace sleep. Sometimes, dinner is drive-thru or some kind of fast food delivery. And the real kicker, busy moms, skip meals altogether which can lead to grazing and binge eating out of the kitchen pantry.
Just like we need to be mindful and plan for sleep, we also need to plan to eat well, especially during the stressful holiday season.
Busy Moms Need Good Nourishment During The Holidays
Eating well is simple when you create a basic meal plan, keep fresh fruits and veggies prepped for snacking, keep emergency snacks in your handbag or diaper bag, and stay hydrated. Sticking with simple fresh meals in a well-balanced diet and making enough for left-overs for lunches and/or one more meal saves time, money, and sanity.
Self-Care Challenge For Today
- Create a weekly meal plan or create a simple meal plan to last for the rest of this month. ( Make this a habit!)
- Stick with a well-balanced diet. I love Michael Pollan’s approach – “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”
- Don’t forget to hydrate.
- Plan for snack emergencies, keep great healthy snacks in your handbag, care, office bag, and diaper bag.
- Find 5 great dinners you can cook that are simple and fast. Rotate them and double batch cook enough for leftovers and one more meal.
Planning to eat well is a wonderful building block to combat holiday stress. Busy moms need to be rested and energized for this busy time of year!
What simple meals can you share in the comments for other busy mom? Any tips?
