Monday, Monday, Monday

Happy Monday, sweet friends! Can we just say the days are starting to all look alike? Sometimes, I feel like it is Saturday at night and Monday every morning. We are at week seven here for Safer At Home and I am missing people, especially my nieces and nephews. Many have grown an inch since this started! Some will not even remember me.

What part of this pandemic have you found the most difficult? I have found that writing my wishes and worries each morning helpful. Then I write what I can change, then write what I cannot, and try to make at least one tiny part of the house beautiful.

Using Things I Have To Create Happiness

Pictured below is an area that was a mess of spices, oils and vinegars. I use them all daily, but grew tired of my counter looking like a diner counter! I was reading this amazing book, and it inspired me to just use things I had in the house to make me smile.

Kitchen Tray Idea

I adore blue and white anything and this vase just fit all my wooden utensils! I had purchased a simple try for a gift basket idea and it was just sitting in the garage collecting dust, but now it has a home! And I love, love my glass of measuring spoons, and my salt and pepper bowls. Now everything has a place, and it is beautiful to me.

And guess what, when you create something beautiful out of things you use and love and they become naturally organized and easy to maintain!

Shop The Look Here: similar vase, similar salt and pepper cellars, similar white metal tray (mine is sold out, bummer). I found matching measuring spoons years ago. They were inexpensive and on a ring. I removed the ring and put them in a glass jar I found at TJMaxx. We have been using that glass jar for this purpose for over 12 years! I just love it.

Honestly, you can use a serving platter or any tray you have that fits a space, that needs a little love. I could not believe the ideas I am coming up with while “stuck” here at home. I am falling in love with my kitchen, even though it could use a coat of paint and the ice make bin broke this week! Life is full of ups and downs, but that does not mean we can’t shake a little happiness out of it every day!

Cinco De Mayo Eats!

Enough chatter! Let’s talk dinner! Here is the menu plan for the week and we have a special Cinco De Mayo coming that falls on Taco Tuesday! We are ordering lunch in to support local Mexican restaurants and then having tacos and all the goodies from my childhood (except tamales, because they take a ton of time). I am very excited about making spicy fried potatoes and fresh spicy salsa and guacamole with fresh fried crunchy chips and lots of cilantro for everyone and everything. I might even get my husband some beer and lime as a treat, we don’t really indulge but this is a special Taco Night and my son and I are making pineapple coconut horchata. So yummy!
