Hey, Momma! What’s For Dinner – Memorial Day 2017
Hi, friends! Happy Memorial Day I once asked my dad how he felt about folks saying Happy Memorial Day and having picnics and BBQs on this day of remembrance. He told me the men and women who served would not want us mourning their loss of life but would want us to celebrate the freedoms they worked for and died to protect. Every year I call my daddy and thank him for coming home every single time. He doesn’t really chat too much about the friends he lost, but I know it passes through his mind, as it does for many people.
Today I will marinate the chicken and prep the potato salad and eggs. After, I will take a moment in my little postage stamp backyard and reflect on the first recollection of my dad coming home in the sixties from overseas. My mom dressed my brother and me up, I had no real idea what a dad was but I knew I had one. He walked down the airplane stairs wearing his dress blues and honestly he looked as tall as the mountains to me. I was too little to remember much else.
The part that sticks with me, are the families who have that empty seat at the table, who brought their loved one home in the hardest way to imagine. I honestly don’t know where the women and men of those lost loved ones gather the strength and courage to deal. They parent alone and have to find employment when many were stay at home moms during most of their married life. But they do it and they thrive despite the burden of loss. I am forever thankful for these families and for the love of the departed that devoted their lives to this country. If you are a child of a veteran lost in combat, you will be my focus in prayer today. God bless you all and thank you for your sacrifices. You are all part of the Freedom Quilt.

- Saturday – Against the Grain Pizza night and a Movie
- Sunday – Cajun Foil Pacs, Green Salad
